BIOGRAPHY
Noted for his, “suave vocal technique..." (San Diego Story), baritone, Chancelor Barbaree, was born in Guymon, OK, but spent his adolescence in Amarillo, TX. In 2020, Chancelor earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and is currently pursuing his master’s degree at the University of Florida. In his 2024-2025 season, Chancelor will join Bold City Opera as Manfred in their production of Jake Heggie's For a Look or a Touch. Last summer, Chancelor joined Opera NEO in their production of Così fan tutte as Don Alfonso. Last April, Chancelor sang the role of Marco in Gianni Schicchi with Amarillo Opera and performed his first solo Messiah in December of 2023. In the Summer of 2023, Chancelor was a Gerdine Young Artist with the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. In his 2022-2023 season, Chancelor sang Marullo in Rigoletto and Fiorello in The Barber of Seville, both with Amarillo Opera. He received First Prize in the MIOpera Vocal Competition in 2023, an encouragement award for the Opera Index Vocal Competition in 2023, and the Blitzstein award for the Orpheus International Vocal Competition in 2022.
